During the first phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom, one of our soldiers was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. He earned it just outside our current Headquarters Building. This was the fifth year anniversary memorial. This is the tower just outside our Headquarters where Sergeant First Class Paul R. Smith bravely fought to the death, killing over 50 enemy soldiers.
