E-Mail from Captain Mike Miranda Part 2

I am attaching a photo of a banner that was sent to me by a 5th grade class in San Diego. After a Soldier of mine was killed in Iraq, I began a close relationship with his parents. They continue to support me today, as does their community at large. With the NCAA tournament on the horizon, I wrote back to these students to thank them for their support and asked that they cheer for the RU women's basketball team as the attempted to repeat last year's excellent showing. The kids not only cheered for the team, they went all out and displayed this banner in the school and sent it to me after taking pictures with it. The spirit and enthusiasm of the American people when supporting their fellow citizens transcends all other, be it geographical, economic, or even team loyalty! I want to thank you for your patriotism, support, and generosity. The U.S. Military may be the ones called upon to protect our way of life, but remember, it is the American people that are called upon to preserve it. As an American citizen, you, and you alone have the power to continue our great way of life or to turn a blind eye and let others decide for you. I urge you to continue your community involvement, pay attention to your studies, and strive to be the best, most conscientious, citizen that you can be. When you come of age cherish the fact, that as your birthright, you will be granted the single most powerful tool in a democratic society, the right to vote! Thank you again! Sincerely, Captain Mike Miranda Task Force Ripcord 503d MP BN (ABN) FOB Lightning, Afghanistan
